The ultimate conflict of interest? Premier Kristina Keneally takes over Barangaroo

Premier Kristina Keneally today announced that she will assume ministerial responsibility for the $6 billion Barangaroo project. Before being promoted by her party to Premier, Ms Keneally was the Minister for Planning and set up the NSW Government Barangaroo Delivery Authority to develop the site.

The news will do little to quell the criticism that the NSW Government is "steamrolling the public" on the Barangaroo development as alleged by Sydney's Lord Mayor Clover Moore when she resigned from the Barangaroo Delivery Authority Board last week. If anything, it will only confirm the perception.

Moore quits over Barangaroo 'railroading'

The lord mayor, Clover Moore, has quit the board in charge of Sydney's biggest development, claiming the public is being ''railroaded'' on the Barangaroo project.

In a letter to the Premier, Cr Moore said she was resigning because Kristina Keneally had failed to address her concerns about the removal of financial information from the Barangaroo contract, ''inadequate and ineffective community consultation'' and the ''external control'' that was forcing the project to proceed before it was considered properly.

The big end of town gets behind Barangaroo as opponents line up

The battle for hearts and minds in the Barangaroo debate has intensified, with business heavyweights and the former premier Bob Carr joining the state government in supporting the redevelopment. Mr Carr appears in a video on a new Lend Lease website, The Beauty of Barangaroo, which is part of a multimedia campaign launched yesterday to promote the developer's proposal for the harbour site.

Sydneysiders embrace project - well, the few who know what it is

THE Premier, Kristina Keneally, says a new survey of attitudes to the Barangaroo redevelopment shows a high level of public support, despite most people in Sydney knowing little or nothing about the project. The $140,000 survey of 2200 Sydneysiders by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, the government agency which is overseeing the project, showed 82 per cent of respondents knew little or nothing about the $6 billion redevelopment of the area, once dubbed the Hungry Mile.
