About Us

We are a group of community members excited about the possibilities presented by the impending redevelopment of the Barangaroo section of our iconic Sydney Harbour.

We are campaigning for:

  • Open and transparent planning processes

  • Design excellence in redeveloping publicly owned land

  • Seamless integration of Barangaroo with the rest of the City

  • Sydney Harbour foreshores as continuous public open spaces

  • Full integration of the site into the City of Sydney’s built form master plan and the City of Sydney 2030 vision

  • Retention of Barangaroo’s maritime links

We support the rejuvenation of Barangaroo and believe that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a distinctive 22nd Century harbourside village with a diverse and engaged community.

With your assistance, we will create a must-visit online community brimming with information about Barangaroo and 22nd Century city living.

We welcome:

  • free expression, robust debate and fact-checking

  • coherent exchanges on the issues and ideas raised by our - and your - essays and stories

  • strategic and tactical discussions on how to achieve our aims

  • ideas on what constitutes a 22nd Century city village

  • identification of the needs of future generations

We believe a process of truth, openness and public participation is the only way to create an exciting and dynamic world-class but distinctively Australian response to rejuvenating publicly owned lands and meeting the challenges of 22nd Century city living.

We believe a process of truth, openness and public participation will lead the way in creating an exciting and dynamic world-class development at Barangaroo.

Barangaroo must be distinctively Australian and meet the challenges of 21st Century city living.

The three flags on our logo are international maritime signalling flags. Respectively, they mean: ‘stop carrying out your intentions and watch for my signals’; ‘I wish to communicate with you’; ‘I require assistance’.

Friends of Barangaroo is a registered Incorporated Association. The Co-Convenors of Friends of Barangaroo are John McInerney and Marcelle Hoff.
