White Bay Cruise Passenger Terminal: Is it what Sydney needs?

Barangaroocruisephoto.jpg

A key component of the Barangaroo debate is the NSW Labor Government’s proposed relocation of the current cruise ship facilities at Barangaroo to the yet to be constructed White Bay Cruise Passenger Terminal. This structure will be located at wharves 4 and 5 on the currently seldom used White Bay freight apron. This proposal includes facilities for exhibitions, functions and corporate events.

Moving Cruise Passenger Terminal from Barangaroo to White Bay

Friends of Barangaroo have written to the Minister of Planning objecting to relocating cruise passenger ships from Barangaroo to White Bay.

Proposed Cruise Passenger Terminal, White Bay, Sydney

Dear Sir/Madam,

We object to the above application on the following grounds.

Assumption

The application pre-supposes that the existing cruise ship location at Barangaroo will no longer be available for cruise ships. The future of Barangaroo has not yet been set in concrete and whilst the proposals from Lend Lease are evident, they have not received planning approval let alone construction approval.

The ultimate conflict of interest? Premier Kristina Keneally takes over Barangaroo

Premier Kristina Keneally today announced that she will assume ministerial responsibility for the $6 billion Barangaroo project. Before being promoted by her party to Premier, Ms Keneally was the Minister for Planning and set up the NSW Government Barangaroo Delivery Authority to develop the site.

The news will do little to quell the criticism that the NSW Government is "steamrolling the public" on the Barangaroo development as alleged by Sydney's Lord Mayor Clover Moore when she resigned from the Barangaroo Delivery Authority Board last week. If anything, it will only confirm the perception.

Moore quits over Barangaroo 'railroading'

The lord mayor, Clover Moore, has quit the board in charge of Sydney's biggest development, claiming the public is being ''railroaded'' on the Barangaroo project.

In a letter to the Premier, Cr Moore said she was resigning because Kristina Keneally had failed to address her concerns about the removal of financial information from the Barangaroo contract, ''inadequate and ineffective community consultation'' and the ''external control'' that was forcing the project to proceed before it was considered properly.

About Us

We are a group of community members excited about the possibilities presented by the impending redevelopment of the Barangaroo section of our iconic Sydney Harbour.

IS BARANGAROO TO BECOME SYDNEY’S 'SHLOCKLANDS'?

Brad Hazzard, Shadow Minister for Planning, in his speech at our August 3 Rally described Melbourne’s Docklands as a way for the development of Barangaroo NOT to proceed.

Lend Lease and the CEO of the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, Mr John Tabart, were players in the redevelopment of Melbourne’s Docklands. (Can you spot the differences in the two versions John’s bio?)

Last week the intrepid leader of our Video Team, Rod Morris, was down in Melbourne at Docklands. He recorded the views of ordinary Melbournians and their experiences of this desolate development:

Small protest with loud voice demands waterfront plan be sliced

There were musicians such as the revolutionary Corruptible Gal Band featuring Ned Kelly, Pancho Villa and Hi Chi Minh. There were balloons, some tethered so high they seemed to disappear in the clouds.

And there were dozens of posters, variously urging the state government to ''scale back the towers'', developers to ''take your hotel out of our harbour'' and the people of Sydney to ''halt the high-rise bribery''.

Yesterday's rally against the controversial $6 billion plans to develop the harbourside site of Barangaroo had everything.

BE A PART OF EXPOSING THE TRUTH BEHIND BARANGAROO COVER UPS

Our intrepid video crew are currently creating a YouTube project to promote our "Bang on for Barangaroo Rally" this Sunday at 11am, 47-51 Hickson Road, Barangaroo (East Darling Harbour, the Hungry Mile).

Check out the ‘first draft’ clip

Now we need your contribution. Send us videos and photos of your interpretation of "exposing the truth behind the State Government & Lend Lease cover ups".

Sydneysiders are seeing red over Barangaroo

Sydneysiders are seeing red over a blacked-out contract which keeps secret financial details of the deal to develop 22ha of prime CBD land, including 1.4km of harbour foreshore.

Premier Kristina Keneally is keeping mum on the State Government’s deal with developer Lend Lease, refusing to tell the people of NSW how much they will get in return for rights to Barangaroo.

Lend Lease has given the State Government $13 million and another $90 million will follow this financial year.

But the publicly-released contract is covered in black marks which obscure the details of seven future payments.
